Blitzsafe's BMW/AUX DMX V.1 Auxiliary Input Converter connects to the two factory CD Changer connectors, usually located in the rear of the vehicle, of most 1996 through 2004 BMW, and all 2002 through 2007 Mini Cooper factory radios (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List below), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple as this interface connects to your factory radio by plugging the two CD changer connectors, one a small, rectangular 3-pin connector, and the other a small, square 6-pin connector, shown at right, into the corresponding 3-pin and 6-pin connectors on the interface box, shown at left. The BMW CD changer connectors will be located in the vehicle, wherever the factory has chosen to locate the factory CD changer in the model of BMW/Mini Cooper you have. Typically that will be the trunk, but could also be in the glove box, center console or under a seat.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
Additional Add-on Items You May Need to Complete Installation:
If you need more than one audio input, you can convert the single auxiliary input of this device into three auxiliary inputs by adding the AUX3.
If you are wanting to connect a Zune™ player with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the Zune by adding the SoundGate ZNCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack.
If you are wanting to connect an iPOD™ with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the iPOD by adding the SoundGate PDCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack. (Provides 5V charging for all new iPODs and iPhones, including the 3G)
If you are wanting to connect to the earphone jack of your audio device, you can convert the RCA inputs on this interface to a 3.5mm input by adding the PIE 3.5-RCA6MM Interface.
If you are using this interface to connect the audio from any MP3 player, cell phone or GPS nav device, and you want to mount your personal mobile device safely and securely to the dash of your vehicle without drilling any holes, you can add the SoundGate M2 universal mobile device. Great for leased vehicles, company cars and rental cars and vehicles.
Compatibility Information:
NOT compatible with the DSP option (What is DSP?) or the BMW Assist option
NOT compatible with BWM fibre optic audio system.
If factory CD changer is present, it must be disconnected. For vehicles with a factory CD changer installed, see the Soundgate SDSBMW.
Will also work with BMW motorcycles that are pre-wired for an OEM CD Changer.

INSTALLATION WARNING: Some BMWs are factory wired for a cellular phone. Except for wire location, the cell phone connector looks identical to the 3-pin power connector used for the CD changer and if connected, will damage your system. The CORRECT 3-pin connector for the CD changer has a BROWN wire (ground) in the #1 pin position. The INCORRECT 3-pin connector has the BROWN wire in the center or #2 position. Connecting the wrong 3-pin connector to the interface WILL damage the interface and cause it to not work properly!
