Ford Radio Removal Instructions
The CPFD98NAUX3.5 is a complete aux in kit that connects to the data port on the back of the factory radio of many 1998-2007 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List above), to create an external 3.5mm earphone-type jack auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an earphone-type audio output connector.
Installation is simple as your factory radio in the vehicles listed below will have the 20-pin CD changer connector, shown at right, which is one of two connectors in Ford's standard "World" 20-pin/16-pin connector configuration. You can click on the image to see a larger photo of the rear of the radio showing the connector configuration.
Depending on what factory options your vehicle has, there could already be a factory wiring harness plugged into the 20-pin radio connector. However, the wiring harness of the interface is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect any factory wiring harness, if so equipped, once the interface is installed, keeping all existing factory options functional. If there is no factory wiring harness plugged into the 20-pin radio connector on the radio you have, the female end of the 'Y' harness will remain empty after installation.
Once this device is installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input into your factory radio. This aux input includes left & right RCA-type connectors. This is a direct connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device, and this device does not work like that. Therefore, you will get the highest digital quality audio possible without noise, FM bleadthrough or cassette hiss. Comes complete with all cables and connectors to connect this interface to your vehicle.
Please Note: This is an audio-only connection into the auxiliary input converter, and does not allow you to control the external audio device that is connected to it.
