GM Radio Removal Instructions
Product Description:
The AAI-GM9, which is the equivalent to Peripheral's PXGM9, allows you to add two auxiliary audio inputs to your factory radio by connecting to the CD changer port at the rear of the factory radio in many 1995 to 2002 GM-made vehicles that have a separate working slave unit (external CD changer, separate cassette player and/or separate single CD player) which uses GM 9-pin connector. Please note that the slave unit must continuously be playing for the AAI-GM9 to work (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List above). Installing the AAI-GM9 creates an auxiliary audio input that you can use to connect the audio from an external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple as this auxiliary input converter connects to the 9-pin connector, shown at right, that is located on the back of the factory radio, using the vehicle specific cable that comes with the interface (Click on image to see larger photo of the rear of the radio). IMPORTANT! For this auxiliary input converter to work, your vehicle must have a ‘satellite’ Cassette player or CD player, which is separate from the radio and usually mounted directly under the radio or in the center console, and will have its factory wiring harness already connected to the 9-pin connector at the rear of the radio. The wiring harness that comes with this interface device is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect the factory wiring harness after the interface is installed.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
The AAI-GM9 is also OnStar® Ready! When OnStar® is initiated, the auxiliary audio inputs are automatically overridden to allow the OnStar® audio to be heard. Unlike the 'cut and splice with relays' setup, with the AAI-GM9 you will never miss a phone call.
