Ford Radio Removal Instructions
Product Description:
The FRD03-AUX/S is an Auxiliary Input Converter that connects to the satellite/RSE data port on the back of the factory radio of many 2004-2007 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List above), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple, as the interface plugs into the satellite radio connector at the rear of your factory radio using the appropriate vehicle-specific cable that comes with the interface.
Your factory radio will have a 16-pin satellite radio connector, shown in the image at right, which is one of three connectors in Ford's "Phase II" 8-pin/16-pin/24-pin connector configuration. You can click on the image to see a larger photo of the rear of the radio showing the connector configuration.
Depending on what factory options your vehicle has, there could already be a factory wiring harness plugged into the 16-pin satellite radio connector. The wiring harness is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect any factory wiring harness, if so equipped, once the interface is installed, keeping all existing factory options functional. If there is no factory wiring harness plugged into the 16-pin satellite radio connector, the female end of the 'Y' harness will remain empty after installation.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
