The FRDN-AUX/S is an Auxiliary Input Converter that connects to the satellite/RSE data port on the back of the factory radio of many 2004-2008 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List below), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple, as the interface plugs into the satellite radio connector at the rear of your factory radio using the appropriate vehicle-specific cable that comes with the interface.
Your factory radio will have the 20-pin satellite radio connector, shown at right, which is one of two connectors in Ford's standard "World" 20-pin/16-pin connector configuration. You can click on the image to see a larger photo of the rear of each radio showing both connectors.
Depending on what factory options your vehicle has, there could already be a factory wiring harness plugged into the 20-pin satellite radio connector. The interface wiring harness is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect any factory wiring harness, if so equipped, once the interface is installed, keeping all existing factory options functional. If there is no factory wiring harness plugged into the 20-pin satellite radio connector, the female end of the 'Y' harness will remain empty after installation.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPOD, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.

Additional Add-on Items You May Need to Complete Installation:
If you need more than one audio input, you can convert the single auxiliary input of this device into three auxiliary inputs by adding the AUX3.
If you are wanting to connect a Zune™ player with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the Zune by adding the SoundGate ZNCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack.
If you are wanting to connect an iPOD™ with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the iPOD by adding the SoundGate PDCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack. (Provides 5V charging for all new iPODs and iPhones, including the 3G)
If you are wanting to connect to the earphone jack of your audio device, you can convert the RCA inputs on this interface to a 3.5mm input by adding the PIE 3.5-RCA6MM Interface.
If you are using this interface to connect the audio from any MP3 player, cell phone or GPS nav device, and you want to mount your personal mobile device safely and securely to the dash of your vehicle without drilling any holes, you can add the SoundGate M2 universal mobile device. Great for leased vehicles, company cars and rental cars and vehicles.
