GM Radio Removal Instructions
Product Description:
The GM12LAN-AUX/S Auxiliary Input Converter connects to either the CD changer connector at the rear of the factory radio, or to the factory XM tuner (usually behind the glove box) in many 2006 through 2010 GM vehicles with the GM LAN radio(Please see Specific Vehicle Application List above), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple as this auxiliary input converter connects to the 12-pin connector, shown at right, that is located on the back of the factory radio, or connects to the 16-pin connector that is at the factory XM tuner, usually located behind the glove box, using one of the two the vehicle specific cables that comes with the interface (Click on image to see larger photo of the rear of the radio). You then connect the red wire from the interface wiring harness to a switched 12V source and youre done!
Depending on what factory options your vehicle has, there could already be a factory wiring harness plugged into the 12-pin radio connector. The GMLAN-R1 wiring harness that connects behind the radio is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect the factory wiring harness, if so equipped, once the interface is installed, keeping all existing factory options functional. If there is no factory wiring harness plugged into the 12-pin connector, the 12-pin 'Y' harness will remain empty after installation.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
Comes complete with all cables and connectors to connect the interface to your vehicle. See "Additional Add-on Items", shown below, for any additional cables or connectors you might need to connect your specific audio device to the RCA-type connectors on this interface.
Please Note: This is a direct-connect audio-only auxiliary input converter, and does not allow you to control the external audio device that is connected to it.
