The PIE GM12-AUX/S Auxiliary Input Converter connects to either the CD changer connector at the rear of the factory radio, or to the factory XM tuner (usually behind the glove box) in many 2003 through 2008 GM vehicles (Please see Specific Vehicle Application List below), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
Installation is simple as this auxiliary input converter connects to either the 12-pin connector, shown at right, that is located on the back of the factory radio, or connects to the 16-pin connector that is at the factory XM tuner, usually located behind the glove box, using one of the two vehicle specific cables offered. (Click on image to see larger photo of the rear of the radio). You then connect the red wire from the interface wiring harness to a switched 12V source and you’re done!
Depending on what factory options your vehicle has, there could already be a factory wiring harness plugged into the 12-pin radio connector. The GM12-R1 wiring harness that connects behind the radio is designed with a 'Y' connector that allows you to reconnect the factory wiring harness, if so equipped, once the interface is installed, keeping all existing factory options functional. If there is no factory wiring harness plugged into the 12-pin connector, the 12-pin 'Y' harness will remain empty after installation.
If your vehicle has the XM option and you will be connecting to the XM tuner using the GM12-X2 cable (you must select the appropriate cable below before ordering), the cable also is configured as a 'Y' connector, allowing installation of the interface and allows you to retain the XM option as well.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPod, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
Comes complete with all cables and connectors to connect the interface to your vehicle. See "Additional Add-on Items", shown below, for any additional cables or connectors you might need to connect your specific audio device to the RCA-type connectors on this interface.
Please Note: This is a direct-connect audio-only auxiliary input converter, and does not allow you to control the external audio device that is connected to it.
Additional Add-on Items You May Need to Complete Installation:
If you need more than one audio input, you can convert the single auxiliary input of this device into three auxiliary inputs by adding the AUX3.
If you are wanting to connect a Zune™ player with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the Zune by adding the SoundGate ZNCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack.
If you are wanting to connect an iPOD™ with this interface, you can connect directly to the bottom connector of the iPOD by adding the SoundGate PDCBLPAK CORE™ Cable pack. (Provides 5V charging for all new iPODs and iPhones, including the 3G)
If you are wanting to connect to the earphone jack of your audio device, you can convert the RCA inputs on this interface to a 3.5mm input by adding the PIE 3.5-RCA6MM Interface.
If you are using this interface to connect the audio from any MP3 player, cell phone or GPS nav device, and you want to mount your personal mobile device safely and securely to the dash of your vehicle without drilling any holes, you can add the SoundGate M2 universal mobile device. Great for leased vehicles, company cars and rental cars and vehicles.
