The VWR-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter connects to the CD changer data port of the factory radio in many 1998-2008 VW and Audi vehicles ((Please see Specific Vehicle Application List below), to create an external auxiliary input that you can then use to connect the audio from any external audio source, like the audio from an MP3 player, a portable DVD player, computer, video game, any audio device that has an audio output connector.
With this device installed, you will have created an auxiliary audio input to your factory radio, which will now allow you to plug in any external audio source, like the audio from a portable MP3 player, satellite tuner, DVD player, or iPOD, into the left & right RCA-type connectors (shown at left), and play the audio from that external audio device directly through your factory radio. This is a direct-connect device and NOT an FM Modulator. An FM modulator requires you to tune to an FM radio station in order to listen to the audio from the external audio device. This device does not work like that.
Comes complete with all cables and connectors to connect this device to your vehicle. See "Additional Add-on Items", shown below, for any additional cables or connectors you might need to connect your audio device to the RCA-type connectors on this interface.
Please Note: This is a direct-connect audio-only auxiliary input converter, and does not allow you to control the external audio device that is connected to it.

For VW's:
Compatible with many 1998-2008 Volkswagen vehicles equipped with a radio that has a "round" scan button and has the 8-pin connector at the rear of the radio (see Specific Vehicle Application List below).
The VWR-AUX is NOT compatible with 2002.5-2006 double-DIN AM/FM/Cassette/CD factory radio as the connector in the rear of the radio is different. For 2002.5-2006 double-DIN AM/FM/Cassette/CD factory radio, see the VW02-AUX.For Audi:
Compatible with many models of non-prewired 1998 - 2006 Audi vehicles with the 8-pin connector at the rear of the radio.
NOT compatible with Audi's new MMI radio system.
NOT compatible if equipped with Audi navigation option.
Audi vehicles equipped with the Symphony II headunit (6-disc in-dash CD changer), or any Audi radio where the rear connector is one piece, will require the AA3-HAR connector to gain access to the 8-pin external CD changer port.
