Finding Vehicle-Specific Radio Removal Instructions<br> & Understanding Other Installation Misconceptions

Where Can I Find Radio Removal Instructions?
On occasion, we get requests from customers asking us to provide step-by-step vehicle-specific radio removal instructions. However, finding vehicle-specific radio removal instructions is very easy to do on your own.

To find specific radio removal instructions for the vehicle you need, just go to any of the search engines and do a search for "radio removal instructions for a whatever", replacing whatever with the exact year, make and model of vehicle you are needing the instructions for. Typically, unless your vehicle is obscure or a genuine foriegn import, the search results will include 10 or 20 different links to car forums or blogs, a link or two to some YouTube videos and some other individual websites where someone gives specific step-by-step instructions on how to remove the radio from your exact vehicle, and most of the time the instructions will include photos of the entire process.

Why Are Manufacturer's Installation Instructions Very Basic?
Interface manufacturers have not written their installation instructions included with their interfaces products with the Do-It-Yourself person in mind. These products, along with their installation instructions, were created for the professional installer, where the manufacturer can assume the installer has a certain level of expertise, with the installer having their own access to radio removal instructions and their own appropriate radio removal tools, and possess a clear familiarity with dash board disassembly. Therefore, you cannot expect to find vehicle-specific step-by-step DYI instructions included with any interface product you purchase. The interface manufacturer’s instructions for installation are very generic and very general in nature.

How Hard Will My Installation Be?
Realistically, the installation process for a large majority of the interface products we sell will be a fairly simple plug-n-play install with very easy radio removal that requires no removal tools at all. However, some involve a far more complex installation which will require you to have certain radio removal tools and possess a wide variety of dash disassembly experience in gaining access to the rear of the radio. You may also need to be able to locate certain 12V sources and chassis ground locations, and possess certain wire splicing and wire soldering skills. A good rule of thumb is if you have to ask whether you can or can't do the installation, then get help. We can't tell you because there isn't any way for us to tell how skilled you are, or how experienced you are, or how intuitive you are.

Where do I put The Interface?
Understand that the included manufacturer's installation instructions do not address or even touch on the physical installation of the device. The reality on physical installation is there is no right or wrong way to physically install an interface. It basically comes down to your own personal preference by deciding where you want the interface and audio device located. These choices will be based on how you are going to use the audio device, the size of the interface, the available space behind the dash, the length of the cables that come with the interface, and the physical layout of your vehicle's interior. All of these factors can add up to thousands of variations and make it impossible for anyone to answer the question except the person doing or directing the install. In our experience, we have seen it all, from duct taping everything to the dash to custom molded color matched fiberglass housings built exclusively for the vehicle. Yours will most probably be somewhere in between.

Why Aren’t There Vehicle-Specific Instructions From Logjam Electronics:
When you consider we sell over 500 different products that cover vehicles sold over the last 15 years from 35 different vehicle manufacturers, where each vehicle manufacturer can have as many as 25 different models each year, and each model from each manufacturer in each model year can have 3 or 4 different interior and dash layouts depending on the various radios and radio features they offer per model, the number of permeations determining the number of individual radio removal and installation instruction sheets we would have to create would be staggering. And this number continues to grow with each passing year and each new model year of vehicles. The resources it would take just to gather the necessary vehicle information and match that to the product information would cost thousands of dollars in manpower alone, could take quite possibly several years to complete and would conservatively add anywhere from $40 to $60 dollars to the individual cost of each product just to try to recoup the investment, making the interface device cost prohibited for most customers. Plus now, because the vehicle-specific radio removal instructions are so readily available now through the internet, the project would become business suicide for anyone who did it.
